The camera obscura is a device from antiquity, used by artists & astronomers to observe nature before the invention of film or video.  The first photograph was made in a camera obscura in 1826.  Every cellphone uses a camera obscura to help produce its pictures.

I worked at San Francisco's Giant Camera operating it & repairing it & helped put San Francisco's Giant Camera on the National Register of Historic Buildings inn 2003.

I have been building & showing the camera obscura at various events & art festivals since 1979 including the Burning Man Festival starting in 1994 - 1999, the Chris de Monerey & now, The Haight-Ashbury Street Fair.
